Report on Game in Waterford News on February 16 th 1930-Edited Version

For the first time in the history of Gaelic game, fifteen little Waterford lads in their county's blue and white their hurleys hanging in their hands behind their backs, trooped on to the historic green at Croke Park on Sunday last but did not troop back. They were carried on the shoulders of their half wild supporters grinning from ear to ear, in the flush of their first National Championship victory. Men who had worked and waited thirty years for.this, and schoolboys who sat with their heroes day after day in the class-room's helped to carry the victors back to their dressing room as Waterford had won the Minor All-Ireland Hurling Championship for 1929.A short while before these same men and schoolboys had been sitting on the touch-line shouting words of encouragement to their schoolmates, words that were lost in the volume of cheering from the large contingent from Meath who were justifying the confidence that had reposed in their team as they were on top in the first half. The shrill appeals of the Southern schoolboys were drowned in the crescendo's raised by the Meath men Waterford were depressed anxious, doubtful. at this time Half time arrived with just one score Meath 1-0 Waterford nil. Waterford came out a changed team in the second half completely dominating and emerging winners 5-0 o 1-1 two of the goals coming from balls sent into the square area by Donnelly.Scorers Murphy 4 goals,Goode 1. The Dungarvan Observer had a good long report on the game also and mentioned "Donnelly was conspicuous on the Waterford side all through" A number of fog signals were exploded under the excursion train as it was leaving Kingsbridge for Waterford on Sunday night, and a large gathering on the platform: raised cheers on the departure. Bonfires were lit on.Mount Misery overlooking the city on Sunday night, in celebration of the win. The National papers gave about 8 lines on the game with no mention of players who figured not like now.. Later on in July in Phelan's Hotel in Dungarvan the County Board hosted a Presentation event at which the All Ireland Medals were presented.
